Eva Zeisel

As 2012 draws to an end, I feel the need to remember one of my many heroes, Eva Zeisel who passed away a year ago today at the age of 105.

Born in Hungary on Nov. 13, 1906, Eva immigrated to the United States in 1939 after a tumultuous youth in Europe.  She arrived in New York and began teaching ceramics as industrial design at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.  In 1999, Eva collaborated with New York design duo KleinReid (James Klein and David Reid) for a period of 12 years.  Here’s a link where you can browse their collaborative works:

Eva was passionate about creating beautiful, useful objects for the home.  Her devotion, perseverance and dedication are a true inspiration.
